Q: Which problems do you offer help for?

A: Please have a look at the menu at the left of the homepage which gives you an overview over psychological,  emotional and medical probelms I offer help with. Please note that I also offer general stress-management and performance enhancement (e.g. for performing arts and sports). The combination of therapies I offer allow a very flexible and individualized approach, so even if you cannot find your specific difficulty or goal mentioned on this website I may be able to help. Please contact me with a short description of your goals for therapy and I will be able to let you know what the way forward for you may be.

Q: I suffer from a real medical problem and/or  pain. How can a psychological therapy help me with that?

A: It is becoming more and more clear in research and in clinical experience that body and mind form a unity and influence each other. Learning to apply certain psychological techniques can positively influence many body functions whereas e.g. prolonged grief, stress or low mood can affect the the regulation of body function negativley and impair the body's ability to cope with illness. Especially in the treatment of pain it is well documented that most people can successfully learn techniques that allow them to reduce the negative impact pain has on their quality of life.

Q: How can lying on a couch and dwelling on my worries be helpful?

A: Most people readily see a physiotherapist to learn and practise physical exercises to overcome physical complaints such as backache or muscle weakness after an injury. In a similar way cognitive behaviour therapy aims at allowing you to learn techniques and strategies to overcome emotional difficulties and it really does not require "lying on a couch". Far from "just talking" about it the kind of therapy I offer is built on your active participation and a close cooperation between you and the therapist. This also ensures that there is no need for therapy to go on for years and years, but that you can learn all the ways to get and stay well so that you can apply them for yourself after a number of sessions.
